Over-tiredness

Over-tiredness

If I could help all new parents understand just one thing, it would be the fundamental facts of the circadian rhythms and how they dominate the day and night cycles of waking and sleeping. Why? Because this information helps us guide our children back into healthy sleeping routines after such disruptions as holidays or sickness. This isn’t just theoretical information, it helps avoid sleep management approaches that can be distressing to both parents and children.  I believe that around 90% of the sleep issues experienced by babies and young children could be resolved by regulating and scheduling so as to avoid an overtired state. The remaining 10% of issues can be easily addressed by tapping into each child’s natural rhythms to help them maximise their own sleep potential.

Sleeping Through the night

Sleeping Through the night

There’s a huge game of one-up-man-ship being played by many new parents - and very often they are playing along whether they want to, or not. Dinner parties involve claims that ‘baby is sleeping through the night’ at some completely unrealistic milestones. This can make other parents feel inadequate or worry about the progress their own baby is making, so what’s really going on?

The facts about babies sleeping through the night

  • First and foremost it’s important to understand that it’s simply biologically impossible for a baby under 12 months of age to consistently sleep through the night..

Night Sweating

Many adults experience night sweats for any number of reasons but are much more able to understand and cope with these than children. When young children experience night sweats, parents begin to see a pattern and will often worry about what the cause could be.

There could be any number of reasons for them to occur, some of which will be down to medical causes such as low vitamin B12 and some which are not medically related. In some cases the sweating will happen after the child has been in bed for a while and can range from mild sweating to severe, where their bedding and nightclothes get soaked through.
